The why behind this project
Planting trees can effectively help to reduce the impacts of climate change through their ability to bind CO2.
As trees grow they absorb CO2 from the air and incorporate the carbon as an energy supplier for wood, roots, leaves or needles. One single tree annually converts about 22 kg of CO2 into oxygen through photosynthesis.
Given the large amounts of CO2 that is already stored in trees, the increasing deforestation in the world's most vulnerable areas poses a threat to the global climate.
The systematic restoration of forests helps to reduce the occurrence of climate-related disasters such as fires or floods.
Our seedlings are planted with the support of small farmers and villagers - this generates local employment opportunities and supports vulnerable communities.
If everyone were to plant as many trees as they emit CO2, the progress of climate change could be contained significantly.
